Bouwplaat van papier is the specialised label of design studio Dot by dot for designing custom paper scale models and paper model kits. From our studio in Arnhem, the Netherlands, we design paper models for companies, museums, governments and educational institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.
We specialise in translating almost any object into an accurate, enjoyable-to-build paper model. From ships, trucks and machines to buildings, vehicles, bridges, mascots and industrial products.
Our paper model kits are used as corporate gifts, anniversary gifts, trade-fair giveaways, educational materials, museum products and promotional communication tools.

We design custom work only. Every paper model kit is developed specifically for one client and fully tailored to the brand, the object and the target audience.
Bouwplaat van papier is one of the few design studios that focuses entirely on custom paper scale models for companies and organisations. Years of experience with a wide range of projects – from superyachts and trucks to historic buildings and museum objects – have given us specialist knowledge of paper engineering, construction, graphic design and print production.

We draw every subject accurately and convert it into a flat, buildable paper model with clear fold lines and glue tabs. Format and complexity are matched to the object and the audience – from a single A4 sheet to a multi-page brochure.

How we work
From first idea to finished paper model kit, we guide the full process. We work from photos, drawings, CAD or 3D files and optimise construction, assembly and branding until the model is right.

Why paper
Paper ships flat, is cost-effective and interactive: the recipient builds the model themselves. It is recyclable, printed locally on sturdy FSC paper – often with bio-based inks – and leaves no plastic behind. At the same time, the result stays visible far longer than a pen or keyring that ends up in a drawer.
