A monument you build yourself

For Open Monument Day we designed a paper model of Spelderholt Castle in Beekbergen for the municipality of Apeldoorn. Visitors took the model home to assemble — a lasting souvenir of the day.

On one A3 sheet folded to A4 there are 22 parts. The finished scale model is about 12 × 12 cm: compact, recognisable and worth keeping.

Spelderholt open to everyone

Spelderholt Castle is one of the monuments the municipality of Apeldoorn opens during Open Monument Day. Visitors get a rare look behind doors that stay closed the rest of the year. With the paper model they take a memory of that day home.

Heritage is not only viewed and built: a small, tangible reminder of the castle and the day itself.

Still popular

Years after Open Monument Day, people still ask to order the paper model. The scale model of the castle continues to capture the imagination.

Handed out on one day, and years later still a requested model.

The result

The municipality of Apeldoorn gained an accessible, educational and enjoyable item for Open Monument Day. Visitors continue building their memory of Spelderholt Castle at home.

A paper model for heritage and events that works on the day itself — and long after.
